A 1978 Fairmont coupe. The bumper
design and headlight arrangement look kind of familiar, don't they?
Originally (up until 1982), base Fairmonts had just two headlights, and
Fairmont Futuras had the Diplomat-resembling four headlights. After
1982, all Fairmonts were Futuras, hence they all had four headlights. From Trever's Home Page |

The resemblance in this 1979 Fairmont Coupe
to the Diplomat is even
more telling. It is interesting that the Fairmont did not see as
much duty with law enforcement as the Diplomats, perhaps because it was
slightly smaller. There were police Fairmonts, but far and few
between. There isn't a lot available on the web about Fairmonts, but
six-cylinder engines seem to be the norm. From Ford Fairmont Enthusiasts |

This 1980 Fairmont Wagon shows a two-lamp arrangement, which
presented slightly less resemblance to the Diplomat. From Ford Fairmont Enthusiasts |
